Carla Marina Paredes Reyes has served as Minister of Health to the President of the Republic of Honduras since January 2024. She previously served as Executive Director at Hospital Santa Bárbara, a regional second-level hospital in western Honduras. She has also worked as Medical Chief Executive in an emergency health provider in Guatemala.
Minister Paredes previously served as the Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Universidad Tecnológica Centroamericana in Tegucigalpa, Honduras and is the author of several scientific publications. She is a health professional with excellent skills to lead and consolidate companies in the healthcare sector, with experience in the design and implementation of new products tailored to the client or company, and has been an international public health consultant with several bilateral and multilateral agencies. She is experienced in strategic planning, evidence-based decision making and performance-based management.
Minister Paredes earned her medical degree in 1993, a Master’s in Public Health and Epidemiology at Escuela de Salud Publica de Chile in 1998, a Doctor of Sciences in Preventive Medicine and Public at Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, Spain in 2002 and a Master of Sciences in International Cooperation at Universidad de Oviedo, Spain in 2007.
