The GAVI Fund's Immunize Every Child Campaign committs to raise $30 million for pneumococcal vaccine at this year's Clinton Global Initiative

The GAVI Fund's Immunize Every Child Campaign, its new fund-raising initiative, has committed to raise $30 million for pneumococcal vaccine at this year's Clinton Global Initiative (CGI). The Campaign will work with the CGI and other partners to raise $30 million in innovation capital for the Advance Market Commitment (AMC) for pneumococcal vaccine which protects against the leading infectious cause of child mortality worldwide. It will support the introduction and distribution of this, and other priority vaccines, to protect millions of children against life-threatening infectious diseases in the world's 72 poorest countries.

The announcement followed a debate during the global health working session on the twin challenges - distributing available vaccines and developing new vaccines - that together could save millions of lives each year. Entitled: "Vaccines: Expanding Access and Fostering Innovation", the panel included Alice P. Albright of The GAVI Fund. The session also considered mechanisms to accelerate the development of new vaccines, including through product development partnerships and Advance Market Commitments.
