The goal of eradicating polio has never been closer. The fact that this year there have been the fewest ever cases in the fewest ever places is giving the world hope that a polio-free world is in reach.

Over the next week, @Vaccines will be curated by Michel Zaffran (@michelzaffran), Director of the Polio Eradication Department at the World Health Organization (@WHO).  Michel will be sharing stories about health workers on the frontline, the disease detectives running the polio surveillance system, vaccination campaigns bringing vaccines to every last child and the global commitment that it takes to wipe a disease from the face of the earth.

From the 12 June, Michel will be tweeting from the Rotary Convention in Atlanta, USA, where global leaders will be coming together to pledge additional resources and reaffirm their commitment to achieving a polio-free world.
