Norway to fund Junior Professional Officers to work at GAVI Alliance

Geneva, 24 May 2013 – Two talented Junior Professional Officers from Norway will spend up to three years working at the GAVI Alliance thanks to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on Friday between GAVI and the Government of Norway.

GAVI CEO Dr Seth Berkley and His Excellency Steffen Kongstad, Ambassador and Norway’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organisations in Geneva, ratified the MoU at GAVI headquarters -- the first time Norway has agreed to fund JPO’s to work for a non-intergovernmental organization.

The first two JPOs funded by the agreement are expected to start work at GAVI in the autumn, working in the Country Programme department, which liaises with countries eligible for GAVI support, and the Alliance’s Policy & Performance department

“It is a great opportunity for GAVI to provide young professionals with an environment where they can learn more about development, public-private partnerships and global health, while we gain from bright talent that Norway has to offer,” said Catherine Pawlow, Director of Human Resources at GAVI.
