On behalf of the GAVI Alliance, I send my warmest congratulations to the Business Alliance for Child Vaccination, an important member of the GAVI Alliance family, as well as my thanks to Atlético Madrid both for selecting the Business Alliance for this award and for its dedication to savings children’s lives by vaccination.

This is a well-deserved honour. The Business Alliance for Child Vaccination not only is a critical part of GAVI’s outreach to the private sector, but it actually led the way – through “la Caixa”’s visionary work – in helping GAVI establish a now thriving public-private partnership programme.

Matching Fund

That programme, called the GAVI Matching Fund, is working to raise about € 200 million for immunisation by the end of 2015.

The Business Alliance now has raised nearly € 1 million for GAVI programmes, helping to vaccine hundreds of thousands of children against life-threatening diseases.

Under the initiative, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the British Government have pledged to match contributions from corporations, foundations, their customers, members, employees and business partners.

This includes business partners and employees of “la Caixa” Foundation, which last year became the first private European foundation to join the Gavi Matching Fund. But long before this, in 2008, “la Caixa” created the Business Alliance to give Spanish companies the opportunity to help raise funds in the fight against child mortality, through GAVI programmes.

Collaboration

It was that collaboration of business partners and participation by employees and customers that set the model for the GAVI Matching Fund.

The Business Alliance now has raised nearly € 1 million for GAVI programmes, helping to vaccine hundreds of thousands of children against life-threatening diseases.

The GAVI Alliance is grateful for your partnership and your friendship.
