Geneva, 27 April 2015 – Following the earthquake that struck Nepal on Saturday 25th April, Dr Seth Berkley, CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, issued the following statement:
“On behalf of everyone at Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, I would like to express our shock and deep sadness at the devastating loss of life resulting from the earthquake which struck Nepal on 25th April.
“The humanitarian and emergency response teams of many Alliance partners are working with the Nepalese authorities in challenging and dangerous conditions as they seek to bring aid to those in need. Our thoughts are with the affected communities and those who are risking their lives to help others.
“We do not yet know the impact on health systems in the affected areas but we are committed to standing with the people of Nepal to ensure that immunisation programmes are rebuilt and that vital vaccines continue to reach the children of Nepal.
“For now our sympathies and condolences are with the people of Nepal.”
